Ohio State fan, 12, beats cancer he named 'Michigan,' because 'Michigan sucks' (video)

Ohio native Grant Reed, who turns 13 next month, was diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago.

The first thing Reed was asked to do by his oncologist was to name it."I think I know what I want to call it," said Grant, according to SIkids. "Michigan. Because Ohio State is always going to beat Michigan, and that's what I'm going to do with this."

As NBC4 reported on Friday when he walked out of the hospital after his final chemotherapy treatment, he "Beat Blue."

Why did he name it Michigan?

"Because Michigan sucks," he told NBC4.

According to the report,?Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer visited with Reed in December.

"We've beaten Michigan for the short term, but like any rival, there's a chance it can come back," Grant's father Troy Reed told NBC4.

Even Michigan fans were hard-pressed to cheer against the Buckeyes this time.

"We've had so many people on Facebook who say, 'I'm a Michigan fan, but this one time I truly hope they lose,'" Troy Reed told SIkids.

"Grant's story is inspirational and shows how special this great rivalry is to so many people, " Michigan coach Brady Hoke?told SI. "Our team breaks each meeting with 'Beat Ohio,' and I think we can all agree this is one circumstance where it's acceptable to say 'Beat Michigan.'

"Now, what we hope and pray for is that Grant never has to battle 'Michigan' again."
