US State Department thanks Troops in Korea for service in Afghanistan

YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- A senior leader with the U.S. Department of State made a trip to thank troops stationed in Korea who previously served in Afghanistan, July 11.

Marc Grossman, U.S. special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, dined with Korean and U.S. Soldiers at U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan to remind them of the importance of the ROK-U.S. alliance.

"Special representative Grossman wanted to have a nice casual lunch with American and Korean troops, who had served in Afghanistan and thank them for their work and also hear what they have to say," said Andy Jay, deputy press attach? for the U.S. Embassy in Seoul.

Grossman had been in Japan for the Afghanistan donor's meeting prior to his visit to Korea. Grossman decided to come to Korea to thank its government and Soldiers for all of their contributions in Afghanistan.

Although it was a short visit, it was an opportunity for Grossman to personally sit down and speak one on one with troops to appreciate their help in rebuilding Afghanistan.
