Matador launches partnership with Adventure Shield travel insurance

Buying travel insurance? Help fund a scholarship that helps kids to travel.

MATADOR?S NEW PARTNERSHIP with Adventure Shield travel insurance means more money for the Matador Youth Scholarship Fund. Adventure Shield is a licensed insurance broker selling Travel Guard products, with three main travel insurance products offering different levels of coverage, as well as a design-your-own option.

For every policy purchased through this Adventure Shield page, 20% of the revenue earned will go to the Matador Youth Scholarship Fund. Every year, the fund helps low-income high school students who have completed the Coro Exploring Leadership Program and who attend urban high schools to travel out of the country. The students are responsible for raising $500 of their own costs.

For many students, it is their first time out of the country, and they write up their reflections on the trip for Matador. Raylene Lopez, from San Francisco, went to Le?n, Nicaragua and wrote up her experiences here. In the community she visited, she learned about a tree that the community held sacred for important historical reasons. She reported that one of the main lessons she learned in Le?n was ?how important it is for a community of people to preserve their culture.?

This year, $9000 in scholarship funds helped five students to travel.
